My colleague told me about Mega Millions today, that the jackpot swelled up to $94 million. She and I visited the website and cracked up laughing when we saw my big ol’ head smiling at the bottom left-hand corner there. The website got me thinking: what would I do if I won the lottery? First, I would pay off my law school debts and change my phone number. Then, after consulting a tax attorney and financial advisor/CPA and make necessary investments, I would move to Europe and fall off the face of the planet. Nah, I probably would not do that–but I would travel the world and stay in touch via the Internet. Don’t you love the World Wide Web?
I would stop throwing away my money on rent and buy some real estate in Austin, Texas. I would invest in eco-friendly transportation and hire a nutritionist and personal trainer so I could always look and feel my best. I would write a book and instead of dipping my cash into charities, establish a modest scholarship for nerds like me. You can bet I would build and customize my own photography studio and fill it up with sweet toys.
I consider myself pretty down-to-earth, so I do not need (or want) any luxury items–other than the studio and possibly a medium format camera, of course. At my age, I still have time to do all the things I listed. I won 20 bucks in the Bahamas once. I consider that a win.

“I would write a book and instead of dipping my cash into charities, establish a modest scholarship for nerds like me.” – Ahhh, dead giveaway you are truly a teacher at heart. As for me, I did the former, I’m working on the latter.
I would do much the same except I would travel the world on motorcycle and go all the places that 99% of the tourists never get to see.
Steve, I’ll bet you have a bajillion books out by now. Any of them on Photoshop? I’d like to read them. Or did I just insult you? You’re probably famous.
Gary, that sounds like you. You already have an extensive list of places you’ve visited. Any extravagant purchases?
Woah! Mega Millions jackpot up to $113 million!
Amy: Sadly, most of the stuff I write is produced by University book publishers. I always wanted to write a photography/Photoshop book on self-portraiture, because everyone with a camera shoots themselves at some point and yet there aren’t any good books on how to do it. Plus I just don’t have the dashing good looks needed to make the book a joy to look at as well as read. Now, if only I knew someone with a modeling background who was also good at taking self-portraits, it could be a joint project, their photography, my Photoshop (read: Lightroom)….hmmmm…..there MUST be someone out there somewhere with that kind of background….
I’ve repeatedly wondered about the times when you’re suprised to find yourself in an advertisement. It must be a strange feeling, but how does that happen? Have some of your pictures been put in the public domain? Is someone stealing them? Do they get licensed in some sort of general way? Fill me in (that’s what she said).
OMG Amy!
These are the things you’d do if you won the lottery? That’s right along the lines of what I would do. You’re my kinda girl. Marry me! I don’t care if you don’t have millions! lol Down to earth is a wonderful thing.
Hmm, Steve, you may be onto something. Count me in if you decide to pursue the project!
Shane, I submit some photos to stock – another blog topic – just for grins. It’s a little complicated to go into on a blog comment, but that subject is slated to appear on a future blog.
Mark, you’re hilarious. I didn’t win the lottery, but it was fun to dream.
