If anyone caught the New York Post from Sunday, one might have noticed the ravishing beauty on p. 3, Kesha Nichols. The accompanying story still breaks my heart, but in typical Kesha Nichols fashion, she turned an unfortunate situation into something positive. Even though Kesha will never walk down the aisle in her stunning $10,000 gown by Guillermo Couture, she decided to gift this dress to a deserving woman, one who has overcome obstacles by “dancing through life.” This selfless act of giving away her dress reminds me–again–why I adore Kesha.
I met Kesha in 2005 after she responded to one of my casting calls. I started dabbling in photography then and got lucky when she modeled for me. We became friends, and I got the chance to see her cheer on the Nets court. Kesha has an infectious smile, and she radiates such positive energy. She is a talented dancer and has an optimistic spin on life. I got to see this optimism in action firsthand when we went to Hawaii this summer. We always have a blast when we shoot together, so when we passed by a pool, we just jumped right in–she had a bikini, and I dove in with all my clothes. Anything for a great shot, right? I had to work without an assistant, but we got these fun, organic shots that really showcased our rapport as close friends.
We had an amazing time in Hawaii–a place where we got to relax, chat, go horseback riding, and ride a helicopter for some thrilling aerial shots. We got to play where they film the set of LOST, and we listened to Hawaiian music on the stereo. There’s nothing like that with the waves crashing nearby the coast and the scent of macadamia oil permeating the air. Ahhh. But Kesha and I do not necessarily need such beautiful scenery every time we shoot. With her smile, we are bound to get incredible shots. I hope someone equally as warm, funny, beautiful, talented, thoughtful, and positive wins her dress.
xoxo,
Amy

But the shots are lovely!! she has such an awesome smile that you captured in such a gorgeous way!!!! And it seems you had an awesome time too!
Thank you, friends! It’s funny, I got so many comments about this shoot on my Facebook page (where I rarely log on) than I did on this blog – where I spend a good deal of time.
Kesha and I shot again together, and I can’t wait to show you her beautiful pics!

[...] 1. Stolen Photo in **** Magazine, Croatia where an international magazine stole one of my photos, printed and published it. I am sure most photographers could relate to this blog entry because of the sheer number of instances this occurs–especially in foreign countries where copyright is not as enforced. Now that I work full-time as an attorney–a “real” one and not as a corporate monkey–I plan on pursuing these topics a little heavier so that I can help more photographers. I also reckon the number of hits on this blog because of the immensely popular search this year for Kesha Nichols. [...]
